Caribbean Week: Barbados

It’s a par-tay!  The annual Crop Over Festival in Barbados is happening right now.  It began way, way back when enslaved people celebrated of the end of the sugar cane cutting season.  But present day festivities can be summarized in three words: Dance. Costumes. Dranks.  Much like other carnivals.  The grand finale,Grand Kadooment, is the first Monday of August, when all the Bajans (natives of Barbados) and tourists from around the world bring their A-game.  Days preceding, however, do not fall short of lively.  Concerts, parades, dance-offs, and food festivals keep everyone entertained.  For a little insight from the natives, watch this video.
